History of Biharinath Temple
Biharinath Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is located at the foot of Biharinath Hill in Saltora, Bankura district, West Bengal.According to local belief and folklore, the temple dates back to the Treta Yuga. When Lord Rama was on his way to Lanka, he stopped here, worshipped Lord Shiva, and meditated. The present structure of the temple is believed to be 700–800 years old.During the reign of the Malla kings of Bishnupur (7th–18th century), the temple received royal patronage. The Malla rulers regularly worshipped here and donated land for its maintenance. The main Shiva Lingam is considered Swayambhu (self-manifested), about 3 feet tall, and made of stone. মন্দিরে খুব কাছেই হচ্ছে দামোদর নদী ,আপনারা হেঁটে অথবা ভ্যান ভাড়া করে নদী দেখে আসতে পারেন , বিশাল চওড়া নদী সোনালী বালিচর ,অক্টোবর নাগাদ এই বালিচরে সাদা কাশফুলে ভরে ওঠে |গ্রীষ্মকালে এই দামোদর নদীর জল অনেকটাই কমে যায়। সেই সময় একটা সাঁকো জাতীয় বানিয়ে স্থানীয় লোকেরা এপার ওপার করে , কিন্তু বর্ষাকালে নদী খুব ভয়ঙ্কর হয়ে ওঠে , যাইহোক আপনারা হেঁটে দেখে আসতে পারেন ও বেশ কিছুটা সময় কাটাতে পারেন।
