Today's travel destination is Kaikhali. Kaikhali is a complete pilgrimage site. It is famous for the Ramakrishna Mission. There is a Ramakrishna Mission here, where evening aarti is performed, and festivals are celebrated during Maghi Purnima and Durga Puja with great enthusiasm. You can visit here throughout the year. Those who want to spend some peaceful time during Durga Puja or experience a village-style celebration should definitely come to Kaikhali.
Kaikhali's serene environment, gentle breeze, expansive water bodies, and mangrove forests create a magical atmosphere. That’s why those who come here once often return repeatedly. How to get there? First, you need to reach Jayanagar by train or bus. All trains from Sealdah to Lakshmikantpur stop at Jayanagar station. You can also take a bus from Kolkata to Jayanagar. Alternatively, you can take an auto from Baruipur to Charan, and then another auto from Charan to Jayanagar. Once you arrive in Jayanagar, you need to head to the Nimpith Ashram. At the ashram, you can have the noon meal (bhog prasad) and then set out for Kaikhali. There is a small fee of ten rupees per person for the bhog prasad. From the ashram, you need to reserve an auto to Kaikhali. If you have your own vehicle, you can drive there yourself. Reserving an auto costs around 400 rupees, but if you don’t reserve it in advance, you can ask the ashram to arrange one for you. However, before coming, make sure to contact Maharaj by phone, as there is no guarantee of room availability. Saturdays and Sundays tend to be quite crowded, so it's essential to call Maharaj in advance before planning your visit on these days.
From Nimpith Ashram, it takes about 45 minutes by auto to reach Kaikhali. The West Bengal Government's Tourism Department offers accommodation at the Kaikhali Tourist Lodge, which costs 600 rupees per person, including food and lodging. This 600 rupees covers breakfast, evening snacks, and dinner. The main attraction here is strolling along the riverbank. Additionally, there is the nearby Ramakrishna Mission, where you can watch the evening aarti. If you visit during Durga Puja, there is a village-style celebration you can experience. Also, every year, a major festival is held here during Maghi Purnima.
Additionally, you can visit Jharkhali from here. To go to Jharkhali, you can hire a launch for approximately 2700 to 2800 rupees, which can accommodate around 28 to 30 people. The launch fare per person is around 100 to 150 rupees. The journey to Jharkhali takes about 1 to 1.25 hours, and it takes the same amount of time to return. Jharkhali has a small zoo with crocodiles and Royal Bengal tigers. If you have children, they will definitely enjoy a visit to this zoo. The entry fee is 30 rupees for adults and 10 rupees for children. After returning, you can enjoy the evening aarti. Strolling along the riverbank is a delightful experience.
