Jagannath Temple
Puri is holy place , Puri is famous for Jagannath Temple, a magnificent structure built in the 12th century. Dedicated to Lord Jagannath (a form of Lord Vishnu).This is one of the sacred temples for Hindus. Lord Jagannath is a form of Lord Krishna , other than Lord Jagannath Lord Balabhadra – Elder brother of Lord Krishna (Jagannath) and Goddess Subhadra – Younger sister of Krishna and Balabhadra resides in this temple . The idol is made with wood and replaced every 12–19 years in a sacred ritual called Nabakalebara.
Rath Yatra (Chariot Festival)
Rath Yatra (Chariot Festival) is the world famous festival of puri held annually in June or July, during which the Lord are taken out in large chariots through the city , millions of pilgrims from across India and the world join in the festival. These chariots are pulled by thousands of devotees using thick ropes .Then the lords are taken to "Aunt's House" , which is Gundicha Temple , they stay there 9 days and return in a similar huge procession called the Bahuda Yatra with laks of devotee.
Puri Beach
Very near to the Jagannath Temple , Puri Beach, a stretch of golden sand beach , widely speared by the Bay of Bengal. The main attraction of this place is sun batch , sea bath , watch the sunrise, camel and horse rides, Sand Art etc. In the evening the whole beach tuned into a fair , the beach becomes lively with local snack stalls, toy sellers, and families ,friends ,devotees enjoying the breeze . “Sandhya Arati“ , wordship to the sea is another attraction during sun set.
Chilika Lake (Satapada) Chilka lake is situated around 50 km from Puri lies Satapada, the gateway to Chilika Lake, Asia’s largest brackish water lagoon .Boat ride across the huge area is the main attraction , watching dolphin , finding dolphin location makes the tour more and more attractive .This lake is so large that , it spread across the districts of Puri, Khurda, and Ganjam. During winter, the lake are covered over 1 million migratory birds, including flamingos, pelicans, herons,sea eagles.
