Bakkhali is a favorite destination for Bengalis. Bakkhali is primarily ideal for weekend entertainment. Every week, countless Bengalis crowd into Bakkhali. Bakkhali offers urban dwellers a brief respite from their daily hustle and bustle, providing them with an opportunity to breathe freely.
The solitude of the sea, the greenery all around, and the vast expanse of the ocean continually attract tourists, making it rare to find a Bengali who hasn't visited Bakkhali. Bakkhali is located about 125 kilometers from Kolkata.

 

There are two ways to reach Bakkhali: by train or by bus.
For the train, take the Sealdah-Namkhana local and get off at Namkhana. From Namkhana, you can reach Bakkhali by bus or auto. It takes roughly thirty minutes, and the fare is between 30 to 40 rupees.
By bus, government and private buses run almost every hour from Kolkata to Namkhana, with the fare being around 100 to 105 rupees. From Namkhana, you can take a toto, auto, or bus to reach Bakkhali.

Food:
Being a coastal area, fish and crab are available at very low prices here. You can easily enjoy fish or crab dishes at the hotels, and take a stroll along the Bakkhali beach.

What to See?

1.The Beach:
Bakkhali will mesmerize you with its vast, expansive beach, serene air, and tranquil environment. The small waves gently wash over your feet.
2.Frasergunj:
Within walking distance from Bakkhali, Frasergunj is a peaceful beach. It is primarily a fishing village, known for its extremely calm and serene atmosphere. You can also see some windmills here.
3.Henry's Island:
Located a bit away from the coast, this island is known for its beautiful natural scenery and is perfect for picnics and nature walks.
4.Jambu Island:
Another notable attraction is Jambu Island. To reach Jambu Island, you will need to hire a boat, most of which are motorized. Jambu Island is part of the mangrove forest, where you can see Sundarbans flora. The island is lush with greenery and home to a variety of colorful birds, making it ideal for nature lovers.

 

Evening at Bakkhali:
In the evening, the Bakkhali beach turns into a fair-like setting. You can enjoy the solitude and beauty of the place while savoring various delicious foods and fried fish.


When to Visit?
Bakkhali attracts tourists throughout the year, making any season ideal for a visit. However, as it gets very crowded on Saturdays and Sundays, it is advisable to book hotels in advance.
